Can You Succeed Marketing An Affiliate Based Program?

Internet Marketing can be an enjoyable and profitable experience, but it can also be very frustrating, time consuming, money draining and anti social.

So why do we keep putting ourselves through all this pain?

Well, I’m sure that for everyone there is a different answer depending on your driving force, but for me it’s the thought that one day I’ll succeed and make a tidy income. God knows how many ‘Get Rich’ schemes are out there but experience has taught me that 95% of them are simply schemes for making the owner rich and not the affiliate. On the plus side, they do teach you the pitfalls of Internet Marketing and hopefully move you that little further down the line towards your ultimate goal.

You may think that this article is simply a moan about the chaos which is ‘Internet Marketing’ but I assure you that’s not the case. My aim is to pass on the good and bad of this type of venture and to hope that I can help someone to avoid the many obstacles and reach there goal reasonable unscathed.

Can you make money from a program which doesn’t sell a tangible product?

Time and time again you’ll see these type of programs Â– They’ll say pay $5 as a one off payment and we’ll give you thousands in return. The word that comes to mind is ‘Pyramid’. Logic tells you that $5 can never become $1,000 without you sponsoring thousands of people and then they’ve got to sponsor thousands of people and so on. At some point you run out of people and the system fails. You loose your money but the owner makes a tidy sum. Maybe the answer is to invent your own ‘Get Rich’ scheme but then, how do these people sleep at night?

Personally, these schemes should be outlawed because all they do is serve to undermine the ethics of Internet Marketing.

So, can you make money from these types of programs Â– My experience tells me ‘No’

Should you avoid them?

Most certainly ‘Yes’

What about programs where you pay a monthly fee but again there isn’t a product?

These are very much the affiliate based programs and do have some merits. They tend to offer the same, old same old, free resource tools, safe lists to join and a type of ad co-op guaranteeing leads and/or sign-ups. Of course, the tools are usually obsolete in today’s market, the safe lists are more geared towards the owner making an advantage by you joining using their affiliate ID and the guaranteed leads are too old to be of any use. I’m sorry for being a cynic but I’m sure there are people out there who are reading this article and nodding there head because they’ve been there.

On the plus side these programs do have a sustainable growth because of the monthly income and so getting personally sponsored affiliates can recoup your loses over time. The problem however, is that people tend to be reticent to join because of the fees and then become despondent when they struggle to get affiliates for themselves. Most of the programs offer free membership and ‘Yes’ you will get tens to hundreds of people joining the free program but the ratio from free to paid is very poor.

People enter these programs believing, that by simply joining, they will be given thousands of Dollars for doing zilch! Like I said these programs do have there merits and if you stick in and spend loads of your money on advertising, hours of your time promoting to rotators and safe lists then you may come out the other side breaking even or with a small profit. Don’t get me wrong I still have some involvement with these types of programs Â– Why? Â– Because I believe the hype that I can be the one success story and come out the other side, a rich man!

What about the programs where you pay a monthly fee and promote a product?

If the product is unique in some way, affordable to the masses, useable and needed and you can get in on the ground floor then you could be onto a winner. In my experience, it’s the product which brings in the serious marketer not the affiliate program. Think back to the early days of mobile phones, when they use to be very bulky and expensive and people were saying “They’ll never catch on”

However, the marketer with vision saw the mass potential and stuck in. Oh how I wish I’d been in this game then because now I wouldn’t be here typing this article, I’d be on a beach somewhere and my secretary would be typing this article. There are other types of product based affiliate programs out there which will also give you a chance for success, but finding it is like crawling through a minefield. Don’t simply sign up because it’s free membership or the site looks professional, read all the pages and understand the ethics of the owner. Consider the product(s) on offer and think about your target audience. The product(s) should be affordable, useable, sellable, exciting and hopefully unique in its market. The affiliate program should be affordable and sustainable. Look at the Compensation plan and consider how feasible it will be for you and your potential team, to reach the profit line. Some plans may look impressive but sometimes they dazzle you with big Dollars. Look at the amount of paid sign-ups required together with the percentages paid and compare this to the cost of the program and the cost of advertising needed to reach those required sign-ups. Work out how long it will take you to break even, for instance, if the cost of the program is $20 a month and you spend $20 a month on advertising you may get 1 or 2 sign-ups a month. If the comp plan pays you $5 a sign-up you’ll need 8 sign-ups to break even but it may take you 4 to 8 months to get to that point. So it could cost you between $160 and $320 to get there.

Do your sums or you may never really break even?

You should look at the make-up of the down line and how it fits in with the matrix/comp plan. Some down lines have legs, in that you build so far down and then the line splits off and begins again. This usually happens when you reach another level in the comp plan, but the resulting effect can make it hard to progress to the next level. Some have a straight down line so everyone who joins will be in your line. This can be misleading in that you believe that it’s your sign-up and you’ve earned money.

However, it does allow you to assess the popularity of the program and help you decide if you should continue.

Does it make you want to read on?

Does it have a product that excites you?

Could you use the product?

Could you sell the product?

Would you buy the product?

Do they have a worthwhile Compensation Plan?

Do they have a matrix or a straight down line?

How quickly will I break even?

Can I make a profit?

Work At Home Moms Can Have It All

With proper planning and good time management, work at home moms can achieve balance in their work, parenting and personal lives. That’s not to say it will always be smooth sailing. Kids get sick, computers crash, and spouses say things like “Oh didn’t I tell you, the boss invited us to his summer home this weekend” and it’s Thursday night. Some things are out of your control, and your attitude will determine how far off balance you become when life unexpectedly takes a wrong turn. Getting back on track, however, is much easier if you have a plan in place before those incidents occur.

Here are some tips for work at home moms to live by:

1. Create a schedule and stick to it whenever possible. Divide each day into blocks of work time, family time, and personal time. You determine how much of each is best for you. Do not work during family or personal time. Close the door to your office when you’re not scheduled to be there. It will help you resist the temptation to “make just one more call”.

2. Stay focused on one thing at a time. This will be a challenge to most work at home moms who tend to multitask, and why wouldn’t you when the laundry needs to be folded and the living room is screaming “vacuum me!” Keep in mind, however, that several studies have revealed that multitasking (carrying on several duties at one time) may in fact reduce our productivity, not increase it. Leave the dishes until family time and do them together. Who knows, maybe somebody will notice them first and toss them in the dishwasher while you finish up that proposal.

3. Prioritize your daily workload. If one task has a deadline and the other is open ended, start with the former. If you need to make several phone calls, or answer your email, try doing them first thing in the morning. 5. Take “should” out of your vocabulary. Make a conscious decision to do something because you want to or because of the benefit to you, your work or your family, not because you “should”. 6. Hand over chores and obligations that you don’t have time for or just plain don’t like doing. If there’s nobody in your family or circle of friends to help, hire someone. The acquisition of more time will likely outweigh the expense.

7. Wear a watch or set a timer so you are aware of the transition between your work time, your family time, and your personal time. Try not to develop “just 10 more minutes” syndrome. Those ten minutes, usually spent working, can sabotage the rest of your day and make you and your family cranky.

In today's world, parents often begin planning for a child's education far in advance. Most Los Angeles County residents are not satisfied with their neighborhood public school. Instead, they search for designer private schools in order to provide their children with the best possible educational foundation money can buy. If their children are lucky enough to be accepted into these prestigious programs, parents are then faced with the staggering tuition costs associated with these institutions.

This focus on education does not dissipate simply because a marriage ends. The need for a quality education remains a priority. Unfortunately, the costs of divorce and the death of the community income may cause some parents to question the practicality of exorbitant tuition costs.

In families where one party generates the majority of the income, this analysis becomes even more complicated. If you are the high earner, does California law require you to cover some of (or all of) the costs of private school tuition? If you are the low earner or non-earner, does California law allow you to rely on the other party's higher income to support the costs of private school tuition?

And even in situations where each party's income is relatively similar, does California law impose some kind of equal division of such costs?

Private education as a discretionary "add-on"

The California Family Code sets forth a mandatory formula for child support that theoretically takes into account each parent's "circumstances and station in life" and "ability to pay" child support. This formula, however, does not include "special" and unique child-care expenses a particular family may encounter. In order to provide for these additional expenses, the Family Code has created two types of child support "add-ons"--one entitled "mandatory" and one entitled "discretionary."

Educational costs for a child are deemed discretionary rather than mandatory. This means that a particular judge has the discretion, or the freedom of choice, to determine whether or not she considers the proposed cost to be appropriate as an additional expense to a parent. This requires a party's counsel to make a convincing argument that the private school tuition should, or should not, be paid.

A legal argument for or against such an add-on should address several issues, including, but not limited to, the following:

1. Specific Needs of the Child: Does the child have a special physical or mental disability that is most appropriately addressed at a private institution? If a child has documented and undisputed special needs, a court is very likely to order that they be met.

2. Length of Attendance: How long has the child been attending the school? A court is more likely to order that private school tuition continue if the child has been there for several years and is at a critical stage of development in which removal from the school would be against his or her best interests.

3. Alternatives: Where would the child attend school if he or she did not attend the private institution? What is the reputation of the local public school? Is the neighborhood in which the public school is located safe?

4. Ability to Pay: What is the financial situation of the parties? Can each parent, or one high-earning parent, pay the tuition and still continue to pay for mandated child support and other expenses he or she may have? This factor must always be taken into consideration, regardless of how compelling any other factors may seem. This is because, as a practical matter, many families cannot afford to maintain the lifestyle they lived during the marriage. As a result, nonessential expenses, like private education, must be eliminated.

Allocation of private educational costs

If your counsel is successful in persuading the court to order an add-on for private educational expenses, then the court must also determine how that add-on will be allocated between the parents. If no specific allocation is requested in one's moving papers to the court, the tuition will likely be divided "one-half to each parent." If you believe an alternative allocation is merited, documentation should be presented to corroborate such a belief. One common alternative to the equal division of such add-on expenses is an allocation corresponding to each party's respective income. In this calculation, the court looks to the net disposable incomes of each party, after they are adjusted by counsel to include any spousal support and mandated child support that has already been ordered paid. The court then examines these adjusted incomes, and determines what portion of the add-on would be appropriate for the higher earner to provide. One must exercise caution in advocating this alternative allocation to the court, since a judge may order the standard equal allocation of the add-on if the adjusted net disposable incomes of the parties fail to show a true disparity between the two incomes.

So, you've joined a network marketing company, have you? Maybe you spent days or weeks (or longer) researching the company, its products and its compensation plan.
